Janice Li was first elected to the BART Board of Directors in November 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. Director Li represents the 8th District, which includes portions of San Francisco.
Li served as President of the Board in 2023. She served as Vice President in 2022.

Janice was born in Hong Kong and moved to the U.S. at a young age. Prior to moving to San Francisco, she worked for People United for Sustainable Housing, a community-based organization in Buffalo, New York that intertwines grassroots, direct action organizing with affordable housing development. Through PUSH, Janice founded a community center on the west side of Buffalo in 2009, which still thrives today, predominantly serving low-income teens of color and refugees.

In 2013, Janice moved to San Francisco and began working at the SF Bicycle Coalition, a membership-based nonprofit with the mission of promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. For over eight years, Janice led the organization's policy, advocacy, and organizing efforts.

Janice currently works at Chinese for Affirmative Action, a San Francisco-based organization that has led Asian American civil rights advocacy for over 50 years. She leads the Coalition for Community Safety and Justice, a local coalition that addresses hate and violence targeting Asian American and Pacific Islander communities through community-based programs.

Janice lives in the Inner Richmond with her partner Danielle and their Muttville rescue dog, Whimsey.
