BART prioritizes the maintenance of elevators because of the essential role they play for passengers with disabilities and those with luggage and strollers. Our goal for station availability is 98%.
Using Elevators
All BART stations have accessible elevators. In some stations, you may need to use two different elevators to get from the street to the train platform.
If you need assistance finding or using the elevator visit the Station Agent in the booth or contact them by pressing the button on the courtesy phone call box beside the elevator entrance. If you are unable to enter or exit the station because the elevator is not working, contact the Station Agent. They will help you enter or exit another way if possible or refer you to an alternate means of transportation, such as a bus or Paratransit.
If you find out in advance that an elevator is not working at a station, call the BART Transit Information Center to find out what transit alternatives are available to you, such as a bus or Paratransit.
Station-Specific Elevator Outage Options and Accessible Pathways
BART has identified alternative accessible options when elevators are out of service and provided a description of accessible pathways for each station.

Calling for Help
All BART stations have call boxes and/or courtesy telephones at all levels that connect to a BART Station Agent or the BART Operating Central Center.
If you need to communicate with the Station Agent while inside the elevator, use the emergency telephone. If the Station Agent does not answer within 30 seconds, your call will be answered by BART Central Dispatch.
If the emergency telephone is off the hook for at least two minutes and there is no voice communication, BART will treat this as a call for assistance. This ensures that help is available to elevator passengers even if they are unable to speak.
Elevator Dimensions
We have created this Elevator Dimension Guide to provide the dimensions of each elevator systemwide to help you plan your journey. The guide outlines the dimensions of every elevator, including measurements of the door, width, length, and diagonal space across the floor.
Elevator Attendants
Riders will be greeted by elevator attendants at Civic Center/UN Plaza, Embarcadero, Montgomery St., and Powell St. stations to bolster accessibility, safety, and cleanliness.
