Service restored between Coliseum, San Leandro, after power lines fall

BART train service has been restored between Coliseum/Oakland Airport and San Leandro stations, after a service interruption Monday due to high-voltage wires that fell onto a track near San Leandro station.

A crew working for a private company knocked down a PG&E power line onto a BART trackway at around 12:40 p.m., BART Chief Communications Officer Linton Johnson said. "One of our trains did run into that power line," he said. "It broke some windows on that train; it caused some damage to the trackway. Nobody was hurt, fortunately."

The service interruption lasted until approximately 2:30 p.m. During the interruption, bus bridges were set up to take riders between the stations. As a result of the service interruption, significant delays were reported for riders on the Dublin/Pleasanton line headed to or from San Francisco and Oakland and for those on the Fremont line going between Fremont and Richmond or San Francisco. 

The track damage was repaired and service was back to normal by around 3:30 p.m.
