BART service restored; expect residual delays

BART restored service shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday after a person was struck by a train at Embarcadero Station in what was believed to be an attempted suicide; it was the second major delay of the afternoon following an unrelated incident between Civic Center and 16th/Mission involving San Francisco Police activity.

Riders were told to expect residual delays in the afternoon commute as the system recovered from the Embarcadero incident.

The person was struck by the train at Embarcadero Station at around 2:30 p.m. While emergency personnel worked to remove the person from the tracks and police investigated, there was no BART service from San Francisco to the East Bay, and  the only service from the East Bay into San Francisco was on the Pittsburg/Bay Point to SFO line. The Richmond to Fremont line was operating with only minor delays. The person was transported to a hospital.

The earlier incident, around 1:30 p.m., involved San Francisco Police activity as a suspect fled on foot along BART tracks and trains had to be halted. That created a major delay between Civic Center and 16th St./Mission in all directions for about an hour.
