Construction update on installation of energy-efficient lighting at North Berkeley Station
Dear Customer:
Beginning August 1, 2010 and ending October 1, we will be installing new energy-efficient lighting fixtures and intelligent lighting system components in the North Berkeley Station. The improvements will greatly enhance station lighting levels.
The work will be performed outside of commute hours, whenever possible, to minimize inconvenience. One unused AC Transit bus stop will be used for the contractor’s trailer. No buses will be re-routed or relocated during construction.
The Energy Efficiency Project will place improved lighting throughout the station. Intelligent controls will allow "daylight harvesting," which means using natural light when available. The new lamp fixtures replace older, less efficient lighting fixtures and use new technology, including improved electronic ballasts and high-efficiency lamps. The improvements will dramatically reduce the energy consumed for lighting.
BART will maintain uninterrupted access for passengers at all times during construction. At times individual areas of the station may not be accessible as work is performed above stairways and escalators. At least one escalator and one stairway will remain in service at all times during construction. We suggest that you schedule a few extra minutes to allow for these temporary changes at the station during construction.
We apologize for any inconvenience our construction may cause. If you have comments or concerns you may call June Garrett, BART Government and Community Relations, at 510-464-6257.
