Public gets first chance to attend BART Board meeting in person since arrival of pandemic
The BART Board meeting this Thursday, September 22 will be held at night and will offer members of the public their first chance to attend in person since March 2020. The meeting, which starts at 5pm, will also be the first open to in-person attendance to be held at BART’s new headquarters at 2150 Webster Street in Oakland. The meeting room is on the first floor of the headquarters and masks are required.
Topics on the agenda for the upcoming meeting include:
*A proposal that would set rules based on public health declarations for when BART’s General Manager can impose a mask mandate in the paid areas of the system.
*An update on rebuilding work happening on the Yellow Line between Pleasant Hill and Concord following the partial derailment of a BART train in June.
*BART PD will provide an overview of their public safety plan including an update on a new deployment plan for evenings.
*As BART passes the half century mark and considers public interest in new lines and stations, the Board will review proposed revisions to the BART System Development Policy that will be used to guide future investments.
*Staff will offer a presentation on how BART prioritizes multiple capital projects including how the agency determines what to seek funding for.
*An update on regional efforts to improve wayfinding signage to make transit easier to access for all and better enable riders to make quick decisions to get where they want to go.
