Earthquake safety work begins at Fremont Station in August
As part of our systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, BART will begin strengthening structures at the Fremont Station to better withstand future earthquakes. Beginning early August, 2014 work areas will be fenced in and you may see large equipment accessing the site such as dump trucks, backhoes and lifts. Please see the diagram here for construction areas and temporary permit parking closures. During construction, pedestrian access in and around the station will change periodically. Please move around construction areas with caution and watch for signs with safety information and other notices. You can also expect temporary construction-related noise, dust, and traffic impacts. We will monitor noise and dust and work to minimize any inconveniences. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this work.
The work will generally occur between 8pm and 4:30am Monday through Friday. We expect the work to take approximately 2 months to complete.
Similar work to strengthen Hayward, South Hayward and San Leandro stations is currently underway and is expected to be complete by early 2015. Earthquake Safety Program construction will be underway at various locations throughout the BART system over the next four years, and is expected to be complete by the end of 2018. As always, safety is BART’s top priority. Our aim is to strengthen BART as quickly as possible, while maintaining BART service.
