BART recruits electronic techs; info session Feb 9
BART is currently hiring for Transit Vehicle Electronic Technicians (TVET), part of a rewarding career that will help keep our system safe and reliable. BART is hosting an informational session on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, to help recruit for this position, which blends technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability with practical hands-on journey-level electronic skills.
The informational session will cover:
- Minimum Qualifications for the Electronic Technician Position
- BART's selection process, including the Written Exam, Practical Exam, and Interview
- How to prepare for the Written Exam and receive a copy of the official Study Guide
TVET’s work at one of our several shops based all around the Bay Area including Richmond, Concord, Daly City, and Hayward. Successful applicants tend to come from backgrounds in aviation and the military.
Minimum requirements vary; applicants may hold an Associate of Science in Electronics degree, or an Electronics Credential from an accredited electronics certificate program, or an equivalent such as the completion of a military electronics training program. Or, BART allows applicants to substitute formal education with four (4) years of verifiable electronic maintenance experience (including but not limited to troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electronic and/or electro-mechanical equipment).
This position works with mechanics in our shops to perform preventive maintenance on BART’s train cars,making repairs and modifications to a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical components (e.g. propulsion and hydraulic braking systems, auxiliary power supply, and automatic train control systems).

The information session will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m., with check-in beginning at 5:00 p.m. Attendees should plan to stay until 6:30 p.m. Metered parking is available surrounding the event center. Please feed the meter for the entirety of the meeting upon arrival.
