Mission Street grate replacement continues nights through Oct.

Construction began on Monday, June 27 and continues nights in September and October between 8 pm and 6 am to remove and replace nine grates along Mission Street. See the schedule at the bottom of this page.

The grates have reached the end of their useful lives and create noise and travel hazards in their current condition.  In order to improve the safety of the grates for the travelling public, provide easier access for BART Maintenance Crews, and minimize noise to the local community, the steel grates, frames and concrete collars will be replaced with more robust features for an extended lifespan.

We apologize in advance, for the work will be noisy as we lift the old grate, make repairs, install the new grate, and pour the concrete collars.  Each grate will take two to three weeks to replace, and we expect the project to be completed by fall 2016.

Mission Street will be open to vehicular traffic and MUNI service for the duration of the repairs during the day. After the night shift, the contractor will place steel plates over the open enclosure until the grate can be fully installed. In order to expedite work, there will be no parking on Mission Street along the block where the contractor is working. Sidewalk and driveway access will be maintained at all times
