BART resumes accepting new cars
BART is once again accepting deliveries of new Fleet of the Future rail cars now that some major reliability issues have been sufficiently resolved by the manufacturer.
During the pause in deliveries, BART and the manufacturer have made necessary upgrades and modifications. These changes, along with several software improvements, have significantly improved the overall performance of the new cars.
While stringent contractual reliability requirements have not yet been fully met, the progress is at a stage where BART has resumed accepting new deliveries. BART stopped accepting delivery of new Fleet of the Future rail cars on January 8, 2021, to allow the manufacturer, the time to take steps to improve the cars’ reliability and availability, and to alleviate rail car storage constraints at BART’s maintenance yards.
