Warriors 2022 Championship Parade rider guide

bartmobile

BART is ready to help the Bay Area celebrate the Golden State Warriors and their championship season. Now that the Warriors have won their fourth NBA title in eight seasons it’s BART’s turn to get fans to the parade in downtown San Francisco, which starts at 11:20 am on Monday, June 20th. This latest party will be different from past victory celebrations in downtown San Francisco and there will be no post-parade rally at Civic Center.

For many fans this will be their first time riding BART since the arrival of the pandemic. With that in mind we’ve put together some quick tips to help make your championship parade a slam dunk experience.

Top tips for riding BART to the victory celebration in San Francisco

  • Masks are required in all BART stations and on all trains.
  • With no post-parade rally there isn’t a need to crowd into Civic Center Station.
  • Embarcadero, Montgomery Street, Powell Street and Civic Center stations can all be used to get to the parade route.
  • The parade ends at 8th Street near Civic Center Station.
  • Riders coming from the Richmond direction may need to transfer at MacArthur to a San Francisco train. Listen for announcements. If a Berryessa train arrives, take it and transfer at MacArthur to an SF train. Some direct SF trains will be provided on the Richmond line but a power cable problem is causing some service impacts.
  • Riders coming from Millbrae will need to take shuttle train to SFO and transfer to a Yellow line (Antioch train) due the power cable issue impacting Red line service.
  • Some Red (Richmond-Millbrae) and Yellow (Antioch-SFO) Line trains coming from the East Bay going into downtown San Francisco will not stop at Montgomery Street Station before the parade. If this happens, those riders should instead get off at Powell Street or Civic Center stations.
  • Before you leave home put a Clipper card on your cellphone through either Apple Pay or Google Pay. Clipper is waiving the $3 new-card fee for riders who add either of the mobile options.
  • Download the official BART app to plan your trip, get real time departures, and pay for parking.
  • Be patient, it could get crowded on trains and in our stations. BART’s busiest hours are expected to be 9 am until the parade start and from 1 pm to 3 pm leaving the parade.
  • When planning your trip to BART consider taking the bus, walking, or getting dropped off. Though BART has had plenty of available parking during the pandemic, some stations could fill on parade day.
  • When boarding trains, move to the center of the car so more can fit, remove backpacks.
  • Don’t jam a train door- it will take the whole train out of service and everyone will boo you.

Get Clipper on your phone

Getting a Clipper card on your cellphone before you head to the parade will save you time and money. Clipper is available through either Apple Pay or Google Pay. Clipper is waiving the standard $3 new-card fee for anyone who uses the mobile option while the fee is still being charged for those who opt for the plastic card. Learn more at www.clippercard.com.

If you forget to add Clipper in advance BART staff plan to sell pre-loaded cards and paper tickets at the Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, and Millbrae stations. $14 pre-loaded Clipper cards ($11 ride value plus $3 activation fee) as well as $10 and $20 tickets will be sold. Please bring cash to pay for these cards or tickets.

Masks required

You must wear a mask whenever you are on a train or in the paid area of any BART station.

Improved filtration

Denser filters have been added to all BART trains to improve air circulation. The new MERV-14 filters capture much smaller particles than our old MERV-8 filters to provide another layer of defense against the coronavirus. The air in a train car is replaced about every 70 seconds meaning the circulation on BART is better than most offices.

Service adjustments

All available BART hands will be on deck for the Warriors parade. In addition to deploying additional employees, BART will stage as many as 12 special event trains to accommodate the expected crowds. These trains will be in addition to our normal weekday service. As many trains as possible will be extended to our maximum length of 10 cars throughout the day. Riders should pay close attention to station announcement and our digital message signs for the latest information. Also, riders can monitor real time departures through the officials BART app.

Red (Richmond-Millbrae) and Yellow (Antioch-SFO) Line trains coming from the East Bay going into downtown San Francisco will not stop at Montgomery Street Station before the parade. Those riders should instead plan to get off at Embarcadero, Powell Street, or Civic Center stations.

What to expect at SF stations

BART will have extra staff deployed at all downtown San Francisco stations to help riders get to the parade route.

Throughout the pandemic BART has pursued vital rebuilding work to make the most of the time with reduced ridership. In downtown San Francisco this has included work on projects at the top of our riders’ wish list such as installing new escalators. Much of this work is still underway so riders should anticipate some station entrance closures and other impacts. These impacts include the following:

Embarcadero Station:
*A2 entrance at Davis and Market streets closed.
*B1 entrance at Market and Main streets closed.
*P2 platform downward escalator on east side of station closed.

Montgomery Station:
*B1 entrance at New Montgomery and Market and B2 entrance at 2nd Street and Market closed.
*East-west access across station closed near Muni entrance.
*P5 platform escalator (mid-station west side) closed.

Powell Street Station:
*B2 entrance at 5th and Market streets closed.
*P2 platform upward escalator on east side of station closed.

Civic Center Station:
*B2 entrance at 8th and Market streets closed.

Getting to BART/Parking

BART has had ample available parking throughout the pandemic, but spots could fill early with a big event such as the Warriors parade. Consider taking a bus, getting dropped off, or walking to your station.

Riders can now use the BART official app to pay for parking with credit, debit, Venmo, or PayPal. We are now also accepting credit/debit cards for parking payment at Add Fare parking payment machines at the Coliseum, Concord, Antioch, Dublin, Warm Springs and Daly City stations. This option will roll out systemwide by July 1st.

Our enforcement officers will be working hard to ensure riders who have reserved parking will be able to find a spot.  However, there remains a risk the reserved area may fill up with unauthorized parkers.   Please arrive early and have alternative options in mind if parking is not available.

Keeping you safe on your journey

In addition to their normal patrols, the BART Police Department will deploy additional sworn officers as well as Community Service Officers at our downtown San Francisco stations to help promote a safe environment for the parade. You can call BART Police at 510-464-7000 or you can text BPD at 510-200-0992. You can also download the free BART Watch App, it lets you send a message to police dispatch.

Code of conduct

We can’t wait to help you celebrate a Warriors championship on what should be a joyous and memorable day. Please show common courtesy to your fellow riders by following our simple rules.
