Race Equity
The District aims to provide an equitable delivery of transit services, create a workplace free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, ensure that those who do business with the District are treated equitably and that riders and community members have fair and equal access to our system.
The District envisions an agency that proactively seeks to incorporate race equity into all aspects of the organization, from hiring to infrastructure decision-making. The many voices and experiences from our community, workforce, and businesses must be heard to create an environment that is prepared to meet the needs of these diverse groups.
Why focus on Equity
Our communities' inequalities create barriers to BART ridership, employment, and business opportunities. This impacts an individual's ability to access opportunities. These inequities are pervasive and, therefore, likely the result of structural forces that disproportionately impact communities of color, women, and other identities that have been historically marginalized.
At BART, we are committed to providing fair, equal, and just access to our system. We cannot make good on this commitment while inequities persist throughout our communities.
Equity Definitions
Equity is just and fair inclusion into a society where all can participate, prosper and reach their full potential. We will have achieved racial Equity when race no longer predicts life outcomes. Here at BART, we believe that we all have a responsibility to make BART a more inclusive agency for all stakeholders.

Equity Reporting
The District aims to progress its equity efforts and to provide transparent data to the public. In addition to providing transparent data, the District has worked on visualizing this data for the public. These data sources will be updated as data becomes available and may be expanded in the future.
